Charity Service
Picture of a child's malformed footPicture, man with huge bundle of banknotesTwice a year we hold a special Service when the collection is specifically given to charity, one international and one local. Our international charity this year was ZANE, a charity that helps the people of Zimbabwe who are affected by the collapse of the Zimbabwean currency. The picture shows a man with a huge bundle of money on his way to do a small amount of shopping. (Return to Top)

The situation is not as bad now as it was, but many people still find their savings have become virtualy worthless, especially the retired, who's savings now buy very little. Younger people too find it financially difficult. Zane helps fund education and healthcare projects as well as treating the results of malnutrition such as club foot. (Return to Top)

Community Concert

An audience of over 65 people were entertained by a variety of items including songs by the 'St Mary Singers' (the augmented church choir) and the choir of Ann Cam School, as well as solo songs by several adults and children in a variety of different styles from Elton John's 'Your Song' through traditional folk to Gospel music. In addition there were instrumental solos on the clarinet, violin and piano as well as a visiting trio of trombone players called 'A Walk on the Wild Slide', the two halves balanced by an interval with wine! Return to Top)

Men's Breakfast
Picture of Men's BreakfastOur latest Men's Breakfast was held on 12th March. 16 men gathered in the Beauchamp Arms Pub next to the church to share a full English Breakfast and find out more about our new Rector, Rev'd Tony Lomas, who was our guest. (Return to Top)

Tony told us he was born in North-west London and grew up in a high church environment. He went to Stowe School then Agricultural College, where he studied engineering before working for the Ford tractor division. He transferred to Massey Ferguson tractors and worked in Africa, being resident for some time in Morocco, before being head-hunted by one of their major competitors, John Deere. (Return to Top)

His career was doing very well, he'd reached a senior Sales Management position by his late thirties but then realised that his priorities had changed and he became increasingly uncomfortable representing 'big business' in developing countries. He spoke with his then vicar and unsuccessfully went to an ordination selection conference before becoming a Lay Reader where his particular interest in rural ministry first developed. People subsequently suggested that he should consider ordination again, so he offered for selection for a second time, was accepted and was ordained priest about 4 years ago. He served as a curate in the Coln River Group near Cheltenham before applying for and being selected as our Rector. (Return to Top)

Thank-you Speech
Sunday 6th March saw our new Rector, Rev'd Anthony Lomas, Inducted and Installed by the Bishop of Gloucester. The church was full to capacity with over 150 people from our 9 parishes plus visitors from Tony's former benefice, the Coln River Group near Cheltenham, and invited guests from our surrounding communities. The bishops sermon referred to how the characteristics of the 6 patron saints of our 9 churches are a useful guide to the qualities Tony and we all need to succeed, plus there was a new anthem with the familiar words 'Come Holy Ghost' but to a tune especially composed by our organist Bob May, a welcome from representatives of the local churches, deanery, parish councils, schools and the Local Ministry Team, and prayers written by the new Rector. After the service, most people went on to welcome Tony in a reception in the adjacent Village Hall. (Return to Top)
