| Children's Activity Day - 1 |
| This year's Benefice-wide 'Easter Activity' was organised by Redmarley and called "A Day With Prince Caspian". It used DVD-based excerpts from the recent Disney film, based on the book by C.S. Lewis "The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian" which is the second episode in the chronicles. In the first, "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" the four Pevensie children find a magical land by passing though an old wardrobe in a spare bedroom to get to a newly created land called Narnia, populated both by people and by talking animals. The Children Gathered at the start of the Day |
| In the first book, the children discover evil in the form of a wicked witch and good in the form of a lion called Aslan. The children and animals fight and defeat the witch, with the help of Aslan. The children become kings and queens of Narnia before they return to their own time, leaving behind a magic horn that can be blown to summon them back if Narnia is ever in danger again. Only one year of our time has passed but in Narnia, 1,300 years has elapsed and another bad group, the Telmarine, have taken over the throne from the rightful heir, Prince Caspian. Our first film excerpt showed how, after the Prince had blown the magic horn, the children found themselves whisked off the platform of a London railway station back into Narnia... and the start of another adventure. | The day had begun with a short act of worship in which we heard the account of Easter read from "The Children's Bible" up to Jesus' death on Good Friday, which his followers thought was the end, and we lit our candle for the "Year of the Child" diocesan competition (How many different places can it be lit in?). We used four short excerpts from the film, each followed by questions and discussion to draw out the moral or religious points the film portrays. Each session was interposed with craft activities and games which included making crowns, lion masks, badges, painted egg nests, easter cards, and bead pictures. (Return to top) |

| The first session looked at Reepicheep, a brave mouse who takes on and defeats villains very much larger than himself. He mistakingly attacks Prince Caspian, but they stop their fighting in time before either is hurt and Prince Caspian says, "But you're only a mouse".
The discussion looked both at how we sometimes expect something different from what actually happens and how we feel when we're not appreciated. We then had the first round of craft activities. (Return to top) |
